The New Cabin Experience at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground

For outdoor enthusiasts planning a stay at Walt Disney World, the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground offers a unique and immersive experience. With a variety of activities such as horseback riding, archery, fishing, and campfire sing-alongs, guests can truly embrace the great outdoors. One of the highlights of this resort is the option to stay in one of the 350 cabins scattered throughout the 750-acre forest. These cabins provide a unique blend of comfort and nature, allowing guests to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks.

In the past, Fort Wilderness cabins had a dark brown, pioneer-style look that added to the rustic charm of the resort. However, Disney has recently made a significant change to the cabins after 25 years. The new cabins feature a more contemporary shed-style design, with a vibrant color palette that includes shades of blue, tan, green, and orange-red. This update aims to appeal to a more modern audience while still maintaining the essence of the wilderness setting.

Upon entering one of the new cabins, guests will immediately notice the focus on natural light and space. The slant-roofed shed design allows for clerestory windows on three sides, in addition to floor-to-ceiling windows in the living and dining area. These windows can be curtained for privacy or left open to create a bright and airy atmosphere. The 504-square-foot cabins feature a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, lounge space with a sofa and wall-mounted TV, a bathroom, and a bedroom with a queen bed and bunk beds.

The new cabins come equipped with upgraded amenities to enhance the guest experience. The kitchen now includes a full stove with an oven, a full-size refrigerator, a built-in microwave, a dishwasher, and a versatile coffeemaker. The decor of the cabins is themed around the wilderness, with subtle references to Disney’s history and characters. From hidden details like a Chip ‘n’ Dale mural to Western touches and quality upholstery, the design creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere for guests.

The cabins are strategically located near the entrance of the resort, offering privacy and easy access to amenities. While they are further from the beach area and boat shuttles to the Magic Kingdom, they are close to the stables, bus depot, dining hall, tavern, and convenience store. The cabins are also nearby the Wilderness swimming pool, laundry room, dog park, carriage rides, fishing excursions, and the popular “Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue” dinner and show. Guests can enjoy the distant sound of the Magic Kingdom boat horns and even catch a glimpse of the fireworks show from the beach.

One-bedroom cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground range from $543 to $986 per night, with prices varying during the holiday season. The cabins offer an immersive and relaxing retreat for families, couples, and nature lovers looking to experience the magic of Disney in a unique setting. With modern amenities, thoughtful design elements, and a range of outdoor activities, the new cabin experience at Fort Wilderness promises an unforgettable stay amidst the beauty of nature.
