Delta Expands Transatlantic Reach with New Minneapolis-Copenhagen Route

Delta Air Lines is set to enhance its transatlantic offerings with the introduction of a new seasonal route linking its Minneapolis-St. Paul hub to Copenhagen, commencing in May. This initiative not only marks Delta’s expansion in Scandinavian markets but also underscores its strengthened partnership with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), which transitioned to the SkyTeam alliance last September. This strategic move allows Delta to capitalize on SAS’s extensive network, opening doors for its passengers to more than 80 destinations beyond Copenhagen.

The new thrice-weekly service will be the sole direct connection between Minneapolis and Copenhagen, utilizing Airbus A330-300 aircraft. These planes are designed to cater to varying customer needs, offering a range of classes from business to economy, thereby appealing to both leisure and business travelers. This focus on passenger comfort is indicative of Delta’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience, especially in a competitive transatlantic market where choices abound.

Copenhagen joins a list of prominent European destinations that Delta services from Minneapolis, including London, Dublin, Paris, and Amsterdam, with seasonal flights to Reykjavik. Adding such a cosmopolitan destination not only diversifies Delta’s summer schedule but also positions Minneapolis as a key gateway for transatlantic travelers seeking to explore Europe. Additionally, the route to Copenhagen stands as one of two new destinations for Delta from this hub next summer, with the other being Rome.

The launch of the Minneapolis-Copenhagen flight is a part of Delta’s broader strategy to ramp up its transatlantic operations, projecting over 700 weekly flights to 33 destinations in Europe by the summer of 2025. Other new corridors include routes from Detroit to Dublin and Atlanta to Brussels, reflecting Delta’s robust planning aimed at increasing flexibility and convenience for its customers. This expanded footprint not only fortifies Delta’s position in the aviation market but also exemplifies its pursuit of operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

In addition to its European aspirations, Delta is also looking ahead to reconnect with the Asian market, with plans to revive its Los Angeles to Shanghai route. Scheduled to operate three times a week starting next June, this route will position Delta against competitors like China Eastern and United. Utilizing the technologically advanced Airbus A350, Delta reinforces its focus on providing superior customer service, complete with premium and economy options.
