From Childhood Sweethearts to Founders of a Multi-Million Dollar Business

Amy Moring and Jeff Webster, once childhood sweethearts, embarked on a journey that led them from being “council house” kids to the founders of a £6.5 million ($8.3 million) business. Their simple idea of creating a 100% Avocado Oil Mayonnaise stemmed from their frustration with the unhealthy and highly-processed condiments available in supermarkets. Their vision to challenge the conventional norm of sugary, chemically-laden mayonnaise paved the way for the birth of Hunter & Gather, a brand inspired by ancestral eating.

In the initial stages of their business venture, Moring and Webster worked tirelessly from their small kitchen table in Dagenham, London. Despite still working day jobs in the first 12 months, they managed to keep overheads low and focus on testing and learning. Using credit cards to kickstart the business, they eventually found support through the Mission Ventures training and mentoring program, which provided the initial investment needed to grow their brand. Their partnership with SFC Capital solidified their journey into the world of entrepreneurship.

As Hunter & Gather flourished, both Moring and Webster transitioned into roles that complemented their strengths. With Jeff as the COO and Amy as the CEO, the duo found a balance that fueled the fast-growing and stable nature of their business. Hunter & Gather’s product range expanded to include oils, dressings, sauces, collagen supplements, and more, leading to significant revenue growth year after year. The evolving nature of the business required monthly forecasting and continuous adaptation to meet changing market demands.

Embracing the ethos of clean eating, Hunter & Gather prioritizes sustainability in all aspects of their business. From using imperfect avocados for their oil mayos to employing eco-friendly packaging materials, the brand remains committed to reducing its environmental footprint. While online sales remain a significant portion of their revenue, Hunter & Gather has made inroads into offline retail with partnerships in major supermarket chains. Their recent launch of the UK’s first electrolyte range, ‘RESTORE’, signifies their ongoing commitment to innovation and growth.

Despite their remarkable success, Moring and Webster remain grounded and focused on their long-term vision. They strive to impact the lives of millions through their products and continue to refine their recipes and packaging based on customer feedback. Celebrating their achievements while maintaining a forward-thinking mindset, Hunter & Gather exemplifies the essence of dedication, innovation, and sustainable entrepreneurship. As they navigate the ever-changing landscape of the health food industry, one thing remains certain – the journey from childhood sweethearts to business moguls is a testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence.
