The Evolution of Fare Structure in Luxury Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has announced a change in their fare structure that will be implemented this summer. This new fare structure aims to lower the entry price point for guests. In the past, Regent offered an all-inclusive cruise fare which included business-class air travel and transfers. However, starting on July 1, guests will have the option to choose a lower cruise fare and arrange their own transportation.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises president, Andrea DeMarco, emphasized the idea that “flexibility is the ultimate luxury” in this new fare structure. Regardless of the fare chosen, guests will still receive the same quality cruise experience. The main difference lies in how guests choose to get to and from the cruise.

The new cruise-only price will include all of the line’s staple inclusions such as unlimited shore excursions, dining, and WiFi. Additionally, guests staying in high-end accommodations will receive one-night pre-cruise hotel and butler service. However, this fare option does not cover airfare or transfers. This choice is ideal for clients who prefer to use credit cards or airline loyalty points to book their flights.

On the other hand, the “ultimate all-inclusive fare” allows guests to select from different air travel options ranging from first class to economy. This fare also includes coach transfers from the airport to the ship and a $500 credit per suite for private executive transfers through Blacklane chauffeur service. This credit is designed to cover two transfers up to 50 miles each in an SUV or minivan and accommodate five pieces of luggage. Furthermore, the credit can be utilized up to 10 days before or after the cruise.

DeMarco expressed that the introduction of a lower entry price will appeal to cruisers who typically sail on premium cruise lines, encouraging them to experience a luxury cruise. Travel partners are encouraged to leverage this opportunity to introduce their guests to a more luxurious cruise experience.

It is important to note that the new fare types will be available on all cruises with consistent terms and conditions. Reservations made before July 1 will remain unaffected, with amenities included as initially selected. Additionally, the change in fare structure will not impact the commission for travel advisors, as the air portion of the purchase is not commissionable.

Regent’s implementation of the new cruise-only fare follows a similar move by Silversea, who recently introduced new fare types for their luxury cruise product. Silversea now offers a discounted nonrefundable fare that excludes shore excursions and requires full payment at the time of booking. This trend highlights a shift towards offering more flexibility and choice to guests in the luxury cruise sector.

The evolution of fare structures in luxury cruises reflects a growing demand for customization and options among travelers. By providing different fare choices, cruise lines can cater to a wider range of guests and attract new cruisers to experience the luxury travel industry.
