A Refreshing Take on Beach Bars: Shark Bar in Montauk

Shark Bar, the latest addition to Montauk’s beach scene, brings a playful and nostalgic touch to the area. Founded by Vanessa Price and chef Jeremy Blutstein, the bar offers a blend of vintage-inspired frozen cocktails and oceanic dishes in a campy, indoor and outdoor setting. The idea behind Shark Bar was to create a casual daytime spot that contrasted with the team’s upscale restaurant Mavericks Montauk.

Located at the former Cyril’s Fish House on Montauk Highway, Shark Bar is decked out with surf memorabilia and fun artwork, exuding a laid-back vibe that is perfect for unwinding after a day at the beach. The campy aesthetic is a nod to the vintage nostalgia of the area, reminiscent of iconic spots like Clam Bar and Lunch. According to managing partner Vanessa Price, the goal was to make Shark Bar a place that put a smile on people’s faces without taking itself too seriously.

Chef Blutstein’s menu at Shark Bar offers a fresh take on classic surfside dishes. From Crispy Calamari Salad to Fried Oysters with Tomatillo Chow Chow, the menu is a mix of familiar favorites with contemporary twists. Standout dishes include the Fish Sammie with Trout Roe Tartar and the Shark Shack Burger with Spicy Pickles and Smoked Cheddar. The use of high-quality ingredients and in-house homemade philosophy sets Shark Bar apart from other casual dining spots in the Hamptons.

In addition to the food offerings, Shark Bar boasts a creative beverage menu that includes frozen cocktails like the BBC and Frozen Spicy Watermelon Margarita. Vintage-inspired cocktails like the Cucumber Gin Collins and Pineapple Mezcalita add a unique touch to the drink selection. Easy drinking wines, local craft beers, and American classics are also available to complement the food menu. According to Price, the drinks at Shark Bar are both visually stunning and delicious, making them a perfect accompaniment to a day or night out.

With a capacity of 150 people, including communal and separate seating, Shark Bar is designed to encourage socializing and mingling among guests. The bar is open Thursday through Monday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., making it an ideal spot to enjoy a sunny summer day or a warm evening in Montauk. The laid-back atmosphere, combined with the delicious food and drinks, sets Shark Bar apart as a must-visit destination in the area.

Shark Bar in Montauk offers a refreshing and playful take on the traditional beach bar experience. With its whimsical decor, innovative menu, and creative cocktails, Shark Bar is a standout destination for both locals and visitors looking to relax and unwind in a unique setting. Whether you’re stopping by for lunch or enjoying a night out, Shark Bar is sure to leave a lasting impression with its nostalgic charm and delicious offerings.
