The Best Airlines of 2024: Qatar Airways Takes the Lead

Qatar Airways has once again claimed the title of the world’s best airline at the prestigious Skytrax’s 2024 World Airline Awards. This marks the eighth time that Qatar Airways has been honored with this title in the 25-year history of the awards. Not only did Qatar Airways take home the title of the world’s best airline, but they also secured victories in categories such as world’s best business class, world’s best business class lounge, and best airline in the Middle East.

In a closely contested competition, last year’s winner for best airline, Singapore Airlines, had to settle for second place in 2024. Following closely behind Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines were Emirates in third place, All Nippon Airways in fourth place, and Cathay Pacific in fifth place out of the more than 350 airlines included in the survey results. When it comes to U.S. carriers, Delta emerged on top, securing the spot of 21st for the world’s best airline.

Apart from Delta, several other U.S. carriers made it into the top 100 list. United Airlines ranked 42nd, Alaska Airlines secured the 60th spot, JetBlue came in at 65th place, American Airlines claimed the 78th spot, Allegiant Air ranked 82nd, Sun Country Airlines took 86th place, Breeze Airways secured 91st place, Southwest Airlines landed in 93rd place, and Hawaiian Airlines rounded up the list at 99th place. Delta Airlines also claimed the titles of best airline in North America, best business class in North America, and best economy class in North America.

Among the other notable awards that were handed out at the Skytrax’s 2024 World Airline Awards, Saudi Arabian Airlines was recognized as the world’s most improved airline, surpassing competitors like Starlux and Play, who finished second and third, respectively. Allegiant Air was also recognized as the best low-cost airline in North America and the most improved U.S. airline, climbing up to the 82nd position on the list of the world’s best airlines from 121st place last year.

The Skytrax survey of airline customers that determined the rankings was conducted from September 2023 to May 2024. Over 100 customer nationalities participated in the survey, providing valuable feedback and insights into the performance and service quality of the airlines.
