Disney to Launch Cruises from Japan in 2029

Disney Cruise Line is set to expand its horizons by launching cruises from Japan in 2029. This new venture will see the introduction of a newbuild sister ship to the Disney Wish, operated by the Oriental Land Co., which also owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort. The ship, expected to be around 140,000 gross tons with approximately 1,250 cabins, will be based in Japan and cater to both residents and visitors to the country.

The new ship will be constructed by Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with designs by Walt Disney Imagineering. Disney has announced that the ship will feature many of the venues and experiences found on the Wish, with modifications tailored to meet the preferences of Japanese guests. This move represents Disney’s commitment to bringing their unique brand of family vacations and storytelling to a global audience.

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, expressed excitement about the new venture, stating, “Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before.” This collaboration with Oriental Land Co. is an opportunity to meet the expectations of guests in Japan and beyond, offering them a magical and unforgettable cruise experience.
