In a bold move poised to reshape the luxury cruise industry, Crystal Cruises has confirmed an order for a third ship, which is set to be built by renowned shipbuilder Fincantieri, with a scheduled delivery in 2032. This announcement marks a significant milestone following the company’s recent intentions to revamp its fleet. Originally, in June, Crystal signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of two additional vessels, which has now evolved into firm commitments. The first of these new ships is anticipated to set sail in the spring of 2028, while the second will follow, potentially commencing operations in 2030.
Each ship in this new line will boast a gross tonnage of 61,800 and cater to 690 guests at double occupancy. This design represents a strategic shift in Crystal Cruises’ operations compared to their current offerings, the Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, which accommodate 740 and 606 passengers respectively. With a focus on enhanced guest experience and luxurious amenities, these new vessels are expected to deliver a more intimate atmosphere onboard, aligning with the growing trend in ultra-luxury cruising where personalization and high-end services take center stage.
A key highlight of the upcoming ships will be a promenade that enhances the vessels’ exterior, allowing guests to enjoy sweeping ocean views in an elegant setting, emulating the design seen in the existing Serenity and Symphony. Culinary experiences will also be elevated, featuring celebrated dining establishments such as the Nobu restaurant Umi Uma and the luxurious Beefbar. By incorporating these renowned restaurants, Crystal aims to cater to discerning palates and elevate the gastronomic experience.
Incorporating a new dimension to onboard entertainment, the upcoming ships will feature casinos developed in partnership with the prestigious Monte-Carlo Societe des Bains de Mer. This initiative is part of a broader repositioning for the brand, reinstating casinos aboard the refurbished Symphony and Serenity vessels following valuable guest feedback. Anticipation is building with the debut of the Casino de Monte-Carlo on the Symphony this month, and on the Serenity in December, representing an exciting shift in onboard activities that attract both seasoned travelers and new cruisers alike.
The announcement of these new ships comes at a transformative time for Crystal Cruises, just two years after A&K Travel Group acquired the luxury cruise line following the downfall of the previous owner, Genting Hong Kong. The renewed focus on luxury, innovation, and guest experience is setting a promising course for Crystal, as it aims to redefine itself in the competitive luxury cruising market. With substantial investments in fleet expansion and enhancements to their offerings, Crystal Cruises is clearly committed to delivering unparalleled experiences that resonate with travelers seeking both adventure and elegance on the high seas.
