In 2024, Delta achieved a remarkable on-time record, completing its flights punctually 83.7% of the time. This accomplishment not only positioned Delta as the top airline among large North American carriers but also secured it the third spot in a global context. Mike Malik, Chief Marketing Officer of Cirium, emphasized the extraordinary challenges Delta faces given the ‘complexity’ and ‘vastness’ of its operations. Remarkably, Delta managed to garner this prestigious recognition despite facing significant operational turmoil in July 2024, arising from a technology outage linked to CrowdStrike. The five-day disruption, which resulted in the cancellation of around 7,000 flights, certainly impacted Delta’s annual performance. While Delta maintained the top position, other airlines made notable strides in performance. United Airlines followed closely behind with an improvement to 81.1% on-time performance, a slight increase from 80% in the previous year. Iberia Express emerged as the leading European carrier with an on-time performance of 84.5%. Japan Airlines took the crown for the Asia-Pacific region, achieving a commendable 81.5%. In the Middle East and Africa, South African low-cost airline Safair led with an impressive 93.9% on-time rating. Meanwhile, Copa Airlines maintained its reputation as a reliable carrier in Latin America with an on-time performance of 88.2%. Aeromexico notably escalated its performance, attaining an impressive 86.7%, up from 77.5% in 2023.
