Park City’s Deer Valley Resort Expansion Overview

Deer Valley Resort in Park City is undergoing a significant expansion that is set to more than double its size. The opening of the first phase of the expansion has been accelerated, much to the delight of skiing enthusiasts.

New Lifts and Terrain

The expansion will include three new lifts that will provide access to 20 new runs spanning over 300 skiable acres. Among these lifts is the Keetley Express, a six-person chairlift with a bubble. This lift is a first for Deer Valley and will offer direct access to the existing resort area. In addition to the Keetley Express, the Hoodoo Express and Aurora chairlifts will cater to beginner-level skiers.

Once completed, the East Village expansion will add a whopping 3,700 skiable acres to Deer Valley Resort. This will bring the total skiable area to 5,700 acres, making it the fourth-largest ski resort in the U.S. The expansion will also include 16 chairlifts and a 10-passenger gondola. Plans are in place for the construction of 800 hotel rooms, 1,700 residential units, and 250,000 square feet of commercial space in the East Village.

This expansion is part of a larger $300 million capital investment program by Deer Valley’s owner, Alterra Mountain Company. The program spans across their portfolio of 16 ski areas in North America. Crystal Mountain in Washington State is set to unveil its new Mountain Commons Lodge as part of this investment, offering improved skier services and dining options. Mammoth Mountain in California will also benefit from upgrades to its lift system, with the Broadway Express chair being replaced by a high-speed, six-person lift.

In addition to Deer Valley, other resorts within the Alterra Mountain Company portfolio, such as Big Bear Mountain Resort in California, Sugarbush, and Stratton in Vermont, will also receive new or upgraded lifts. This investment program illustrates a commitment to enhancing the overall skiing and snowboarding experience at various resorts.

The accelerated opening of the first phase of Deer Valley Resort’s expansion is sure to excite skiing enthusiasts. With new lifts, terrain, and significant expansion plans in place, Deer Valley is poised to become a premier destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Moreover, Alterra Mountain Company’s investment program will have a positive impact on various resorts, improving the overall experience for visitors.
