Embarking on the journey to Disney Cruise Line’s new private destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on the island of Eleuthera, was far from easy. The promise of pristine beaches, water play areas for kids, and an embrace of Bahamian culture sounded like a dream. However, the reality of the trek left much to be desired. The adventure began with a half-mile walk on a pier under the scorching Bahamas sun, followed by a crowded tram ride to reach the main area of the park.
The challenging trek was made even more difficult for families with young children. The long walk on the pier proved to be a struggle, especially for kids who were not prepared for the distance. Cries echoed from children around us, with one 5-year-old boy with autism needing to be carried, causing distress for his mother as well. The .55-mile walk from the ship to the main gate felt like an eternity, setting the tone for the rest of the journey.
After enduring the lengthy walk and tram ride, we finally arrived at Lookout Cay almost 40 minutes later. The exhaustion was palpable, but the mood lifted once the trolley began moving, providing a sense of relief and excitement for what was to come. The park itself lacked clear directional signage, making navigation a bit challenging. However, the promise of water play areas, pristine beaches, and an embrace of Bahamian culture kept spirits high.
Despite the initial struggles, once inside the park, there was a sense of wonder and excitement in the air. Families settled down in the ample lawn chair areas, with children enjoying the various attractions. From spotting fish in the crystal-clear waters to sliding down water slides, there was something for everyone. The entertainment, including a “Fun in the Sun Beach Bash” and “Rush! A Junkanoo Celebration,” added to the vibrant atmosphere of the park.
As the day drew to a close, the realization of the journey back to the ship loomed over us. With limited time and a tired family in tow, the prospect of the half-mile walk back to the ship seemed daunting. However, the availability of small driving carts for cabana guests provided some relief, ensuring a more comfortable ride back to the ship.
While the journey to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point was challenging and exhausting, the memories made at this picturesque destination were worth the effort. With improved transportation options and clearer signage, the overall experience could be enhanced for future visitors. Lookout Cay offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences, making it a must-visit destination for cruise passengers looking for a taste of paradise in the Bahamas.
